Transplant Abuse: Organ Sourcing in China
Professor of clinical ethics at Macquarie University Wendy Rogers gave a presentation on ‘Transplant abuse: organ sourcing in China‘ at the Hepatobiliary and Transplant Anaesthesia Teaching Month at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane on August 30, 2018.
Rogers’ presentation detailed:
- Prior to 2015, organs in China were sourced from prisoners, many of whom were prisoners of conscience executed without due process.
- From 2015, China pledged to stop using executed prisoners and as a source of transplant organs yet high volumes of transplantation continue to take place.
- Wealthy foreigners can still obtain transplants, booked in advance.
